World Book Day 2016

Just a month to go now until this year's World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March.

First celebrated in 1995, World Book Day is an annual charity event held in the UK and Ireland that celebrates the joy of books and reading.  Every child in full time eduction is given a voucher to spend on one of the books that has been specially published to mark the occasion.  Children and adults are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character whilst celebrating the pleasure that books and reading give.

If your children are not sure who they want to dress up as, have a look on this link which shows the recommended books for each Key Stage and you will find lots of inspiration for book characters which give them some ideas:

Chinese New Year 2016

The first big dressing up opportunity of 2016 is Chinese New Year which starts on Monday 8th February.  Chinese New Year is celebrated across the world, with the biggest celebrations outside of Asia taking place in London.

Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese Zodiac.  The Zodiac is divided into 12 blocks just like its western couterpart, but with each house having a time length of a year instead of a month.  This year it is the Year of the Monkey.

WHICH CHINESE ZODIAC SIGN ARE YOU?

In the Chinese Lunar calendar your sign is determined from the year you were born.  The years below are a rough guide.  If you were born in January or February it might be slightly different as the New Year moves between 21st January and 20th February.

  • Happy New Year

A Very Happy New Year to all our customers.  We had a very busy trading period in the last few months of 2015 with Heroes Day, Children in Need, Halloween and Christmas.  Thank you for your custom and we do hope that you (and your children) are happy with all your purchases.

The begining of a New Year is always a good time to take stock and make some positive changes.  At Sequins and Swords we are planning to expand our range of quality baby, toddler and childrens costumes in 2016 and will be visiting some of the Trade Shows later this month to find some fresh, new designs.

In the meantime there are some existing develpment from our current suppliers, Travis Designs and Pretend to Bee.  We have just started stocking the lovely new Disney Baby licensed range from Travis and the fab Natural History Dinosaur costume range from Pretend to Bee.

Please do have a look for these lovely new costumes in the Baby Costume and Animal Costume categories of the site.

    Kids Nativity Costumes Selling Fast!

There has been a lot of press in recent years about the decline of the traditional Nativity Play in our schools.  However, we still see a very healthy demand for kids Angels, Kings, Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Cows, Sheep and Nativity Star costumes at this time of year.

Have a look at our lovely range of simple but effective costumes.  Well priced, good quality and all washable so can be used again next year.  So they are great for Nursery and School Productions.  But they are selling fast and stock will not be replenished until next year so don't leave it too long if you need a Nativity costume.
